The best way to learn is to read, especially when you are an independent worker. This page is a short summary of the books I have read. I will keep updating this list and the titles are linked to Amazon, if you want to purchase it.

Read this book during my soul searching period and it’s like a hammer hitting a nail. It was like the book / author was speaking to me. I also learn that to do good writing, pick a persona and write like you are talking to it. Anyway, here’s my favourite quote from the book. “Maybe I can do lots of different things. And if I don’t—if I die even tomorrow—that’s fine also. What does purpose mean when we are dead? We might as well choose to be happy now.” There is nothing wrong with failures and changing mind, be happy and choose the life you want to lead.

Really love this book. Not a business book per say, but if you are making some form of irrational decisions in your business, perhaps Ego is the cause of it. You see, as we move up in ranks, days become less and less about doing and more and more about making decisions. Such is the nature of leadership, which is also the case for Ego to be a culprit. As a boss, are you able to take in feedback from your employees? Remember: Whatever is next for us, we can be sure of one thing we’ll want to avoid. Ego. It makes all the steps hard, but failure is the one it will make permanent. Unless we learn, right here and right now, from our mistakes

Sometimes I think I go too deep into tech. Thinking that starting a business is always about coming up with something new. Innovation is not the same starting a business. Starting a business, you got to make money and is there a way to make money with your passion. I got interested in niche sites after listening to Pat on his podcast Smart Passive Income. The book shows an alternative route of testing idea beside the usual lean startup methodology. A good read but if you are looking for innovation ideas / stuff. You got the wrong book.

This book taught to appreciate the process of learning rather focusing on result. No doubt that result is important but without going though the process there will be no result. If something is hard, break it down to 4 simple steps. The mantra to follow is simplify, small, short and slow. Especially slow, it gives you time to thing through the process rather to just wanting to finish. It’s a fine book. Good read if you are about to make big decisions in your life. In fact, this good is so good that I started meditating because of it.

This book taught me that negotiation doesn’t necessary starts with getting a “Yes”. Getting a “No” is also a good start too. Other strategies in the book also including mirroring, labelling and asking “what and How” instead of “why”. Asking “why” makes a person more defensive and in negotiation, getting defensive is the last thing you want.

If you like Game of Thrones, because this version is for nerds. Do not expect any business insights or strategies. When a company grows bigger, it is all about politics and betrayal.
