Uber Is Now In Singapore, and I tried it with my mom yesterday. Although the price is a bit on the high side (see pricing here), the service was great.

Chinese lunar new year (CNY) is coming and every year my mom would be busy preparing for the steamboat dinner that we are going to have this coming CNY eve. This year it’s a little different, we decided that we could have our Continue reading “Uber Is Now In Singapore!”

Kindle you light up my fire for you again!

It’s just been a few days since the release of the new range of kindles.  And online especially for the Kindle Fire, it has been swarm with reviews and first impression. I had a kindle 3 once, in fact just 2 months ago but the screen froze and I had to send it back to Amazon.

Under the Amazon warrant, I was able to get back the full refund and Amazon also return me the shipping fee for shipping it back to US. (Thumbs up for Amazon) even thou I am quite disappointment with the QUALITY of Kindle 3.

Since I sent back the Kindle 3, I am left without an eReader and was serious considering an ipad. But just days before, Kindle Fire came to light.

Certainly Kindle you light up my fire for you again! priced at US$199 about 60% cheaper than ipad. Why Not? Plus it has all the functions that I need and even better considering I paid US$114 for Kindle 3 with special offer. It is just US$85.00 more and I get the following:

  • read magazines in color and picture which is a much better experience than kindle 3
  • reading pdf will certainly be much a better experience  (expect that I may not be able to read as long compared to eInk.
  • I can watch videos on the go!
  • Checking email as well

Apart from the above, I can still get the functions below which I MAY NOT or CANNOT use! 🙂 because these services may be just available to the US market.

  • 18 million movies, TV shows, songs, magazines, and books
  • Amazon Appstore – thousands of popular apps and games
  • Ultra-fast web browsing – Amazon Silk
  • Free cloud storage for all your Amazon content
  • Vibrant color touchscreen with extra-wide viewing angle
  • Fast, powerful dual-core processorAmazon Prime members enjoy unlimited, instant streaming of over 10,000 popular movies and TV shows

The question in mind is suppose Amazon sends me a kindle Fire that does not work well again, can they send me a new one? instead of just a refund? Because in the case of my Kindle 3, it was a ad supported version and for the ad supported version it is only available for the US market which I order through a 3rd party logistic unlike Kindle 3 without ads, it can be shipped straight to the international customers thus if anything happen to kindle 3 without ads, Amazon will send you a new one.

hmmmmmmmm. Should I??? 2 cents thoughts.

10km run at MacRitchie Reservoir with Vivo Barefoot Ultra

The weight of ultra on feet is extremely light, its feels like I am running without a shoe. And because of the thin layer of sole, it also makes my steps on rocky stones along the macritchie trail “sensational”. As compared to Vivobarefoot EVO, EVO provides a little bit of more comfort because of it cushion sole. On the other hand, this “sensational” feeling makes me pay more attention and adapt better  to the ground condition.

With functional plug-in tongue and laces, I decided to remove the plug in tongue for this run because I was afraid that the rough edges on the tongue would create friction with my feet. However, there were some abrasion still. The shoe laces is good, a light pull and you are tight and comfy to go > maybe I could try my next triathlon with the Ultra

Close up on my feet shows the "cut" skin on my last toe.

One of my running mate points out a concern, “if you wear this shoe without a socks, and this shoe is made of plastic like material, wouldn’t there be more heat generated while running making your feet to sweat more?

My answer to this is no. Surprisingly I do not feel much sweat on my feet and because of the holes that provide much airing, my shes do not smell as bad 😛

Running with Ultra at MacRitchie trail, I do not feel so worry because of the puncture resistant sole, it makes me focus more on my running style and tempo.

I will be doing more runs with Ultra and will give more updates 🙂

*Vivo Barefoot Ultra is not out yet in the market, thanks to Barefoot Store I have the opportunity to try. I would like to mention that there is a sock provided when you purchased the Ultra. It is mainly use for winter purposes. You can find more information from the video below

My new BOB Tote from timbuk2 have arrived!!!

Finally, after BOB have traveled half way around the world he has finally arrived. I am so happy that I would like to share my happiness with everyone 🙂

He started out from US, then to Korea, follow by HK and across the sea to ShenZhen before landing at Singapore at 11.20AM – 22 Oct 2010.

Let's welcome Bob from US

I just want to say I love timbuk2 bags. I owned a Timbuk2 messenger bag, a data dump and now its BOB tote.

Why is it called BOB. Because

No matter which way you spell it, Bob is two bags in one. Outside (or in), he’s mellow and matte. Inside (or out), he’s sexy and slick. Constructed of durable, waterproof Tarpaulin fabric, Bob is ready for drippy produce and weekend wardrobes. Carry him as a tote, cart him as a shoulder bag, or sling him as a Messenger. > quote from timbuk2 site

This is mine
This belongs to Tongye's

Another friend of mine, who is also a fellow Timbuk2 fan also purchase a silver BOB tote 🙂

Will give reviews on the bag soon!:P

The new improved Terra Plana EVO II (No Mistake)

I would like apologies to all Evo lovers. In an earlier post, I mention “I received a new minimalist footwear from barefoot. And because I was not sure of the name I called it the EVO2.

I made a mistake. Because there is a new EVO2.

The minimalist shoe I had received was a new model named “Ultra”. It is a new additional to the minimalist shoe family among Terra Plana.:)

Now for the “No mistake” True Blue EVO 2

The New EVO 2:) Hope I clear up the air here. I will post the updates on “Ultra” soon.

Book Review: The really good fun cartoon book of NLP

If you want to understand NLP in a easy and fun way, this is the book to read. It has cartoon that help me visualize plus there are not much technical terms involved in the book.

In the book, it very simply put NLP is our

  1. Brain and the things that goes inside our mind
  2. Language, both spoken and body
  3. Behavior and thinking patterns.

it also highlights the basic structure of NLP , how does it helps? Namely

  1. building rapport – communicate with people / each person is different thus there are argument so learn to appreciate and respect.
  2. Using our FIVE senses – to feel, to see pay attention … especially develop listening skills
  3. Make us think – “Start with the end in mind”
  4. flexibility in our behavior

afterwhich the books goes in details in a lighthearted manner, although the material is light, it makes me think deep. I would like share what have I learn from the book.

As you all would know in the previous post, I was thinking if I should be taking CFA, CAIA, or CFP. After much consideration , there was no action. But after the book I took my action. It was the part on choices, there are many ways you can look a problem, either half full or half empty and of course when you make a decision – Believe it. In my case, I been thinking that CFA is difficult, I was worry that I may fail, but the thing is if I keep on thinking that I will not do well, I really will not do well because my mind is not able to determine what is negative. So I MUST PASS, I PASSED. After I Passed I will excel my career with it.

Beside these, there are are some exercises that are for the readers.

For example, write a postcard to yourself.

Think how is it like in 5 years time, where are you, what are you doing – start with the end in mind.

Then write another postcard, this time 10years into the future.

The exercise I like most is this, think and write down what you really want.

  1. where are you now?
  2. where are you going?
  3. How will you get there?

And right after this exercise, I sign up for CFA, because if I want to be the best , I should take the best. So if you need a bit of a push. This book might help 🙂

I’m selling my Newton Running shoe for Vivobarefoot’s Evo

Selling my newton running shoes

After a few attempts on Vivobarefoot Evo, and a few attempts on Newton Distance S.

There is no going back to cushion shoes. Minimalist shoe brings me to a whole new level in running, and I truly feel good when I am in Evo, feet is lighter, no heel strike and I could feel the ground.

So now I decided to sell my Newton Running shoe (and Newton was on my wishlist) for Vivobarefoot’s Evo.

Model: Distance S

Size: 10

Going for 50% off retail price – SG$100 🙂

Lesson on business model for Start-ups

Today, I had a discussion with Zyy.sg and Sin en. It was about the continuity of Soleil Water. We have come up with several plans and when the time is right we would choose the one that deem most fit.

What I want to share is what zyy shared with me, he shared with me what he learned about business model from SWG. And that actually prompt me to look for books about creating successful Start-ups from the national library. I found “Startups that Work”.

I read through the content page and also notice that important factors that Soleil Water actually miss out. Well I understand that reading a book would not increased the chances of my Start-up success but at the very least it allows me to take notice into the factors that I should consider. Although I believe the best learning experience would be hands on experiences.

When I finish the book I will also make a post on what are the things that Soleil Water miss out on or is it simply because of me.

Blogging on blogspot and wordpress.com

I received an email from Gene asking about the updating of blog posts from blogger to wordpress.com.

Here is her his question.

If I wanted to do a test of my own between the two blog platforms – you mentioned an update button in your article. That would allow me to update all of my information (content) from one blog platform to the other. I.E. (in example) go from blogger to wordpress. Could you blog about how you do that or send me back an email describing that feature and where I would locate it. Gene Hallmark

His question arises after reading my post on blogger vs wordpress.com

So I have decided to blog it, so it would benefit other readers too.

Suppose you want to start a blog, and you are comparing between blogger and wordpress.com. You could actually manually “sync” the 2 blogs together. Well, not actually sync but import blogger to wordpress, thus you need to provide your content in blogger. This was what I did when comparing I was comparing the 2 platforms.

  1. I start a blogspot – leetucksing.blogspot.com
  2. I also started a wordpress.com blog – leetucksing.wordpress.com
  3. I start off with blogspot and trying out the different widgets that it allows me to customize. (esp. Adsense)
  4. then I login to my wordpress.com
  5. Go to tools > import > blogger
  6. you will be prompt to enter you blogger user id and password
  7. your blogspot and its url will be shown (just like the photo below)
  8. and you click the import button
  9. after which wordpress.com will do all the work > all posts and comments on your blogger is imported to wordpress.com

Importing from Blogger to WordPress.com

From now you while you are trying out blogger and you are posting on blogger, your post could be “sync” on wordpress.com too. And if the case you are thinking of leaving blogger to wordpress.com. The posts you created are already in wordpress.com.

Or  if you are thinking of maintaining 2 blogs, ie Blogger and wordpress.com > a possible reason may be that blogger gives you the ability to put ads, while wordpress.com gives you the quality audience. Maybe you could follow what I did previous was to import my blogger’s posts to wordpress.com once a week. And both of my blogs show the same content,it also helps to channel the traffic ways I think.

However in the end, as you know I still go for wordpress.com.

I hope this answer you question.

Cheers Gene
